Holly Drummond – Fade (Dj Shamann Remix)
A tripped out version of the original…
I recently came across the name of Holly Drummond, an up and coming singer/musician from Edinburgh who’s gaining a nice little following through Youtube and social media.
She’s the kind of artist that DJs like to come across because of her willingness to collaborate with others, allowing remixers to go completely different ways with their takes on her work. Some artists are a little more guarded with their creative process.
But because of the openness with her music, there are some great remixes out there to enjoy for fans who may not have found her yet otherwise. Luckily for us, she opened the doors once again on her new track “Fade”. I was able to sit down with the song (which was already stuck on replay) and take it in a new direction, while still featuring Holly Drummond as the main attraction.
This remix has a bass driven, classic Trip-Hop style to it. I’ve probably spent way too much time listening to Portishead and the hypnotizing vocals of Beth Gibbons over the years, so that when I was hearing Holly I instinctively went in the same direction. Whether or not I did it justice is for you to decide, but I had a great time with it regardless.
Side note: The stems were originally from a remix competition. Unfortunately, I had to go out of town before the deadline, so I couldn’t finish it the way I wanted to. As soon as I get back and situated, I’ll update this the way I wanted to for those who are interested.
